The Truth About Weight-Loss Supplements

It is estimated that over 83% of the population in the US is on a diet of some sort. It is also estimated that 80% of those people will never see lasting results for their efforts.

No this just doesn't happen to you!

We are overweight mainly for the simple fact that we consume more calories than we burn. Outside of a medical condition, that is really all there is to it. But hey you can't build a multibillion dollar weight-loss supplement industry using simple facts like these.

Let's face it, that would mean that all most people would need to do to lose weight would be to eat less and exercise more!

weight loss plans, weight loss supplements, the diet solution program review,

As simple as the solution may be people rather take the more complex approach of spending their time looking for an easier to swallow answer, like a pill maybe? In fact Americans alone are spending over 1 billion dollars per year on weight-loss supplements.

As it happens there is no shortage of companies ready and willing to fill that desire. In their desire to help us out some of these weight-loss supplement companies got a little over zealous in the claims they made about the results that their products will deliver.

In fact recently the manufacturers of four popular weight-loss supplement products were fined $25 million dollars for making false claims as to the safety and effectiveness of their products. These products are still being sold because dietary supplements usually are not pulled from the store unless they have been proven to be a health risk. Weight-loss supplements and safety.

The issue of safety isn't only a problem unique to the weight-loss supplement industry. It extends to all dietary supplements like vitamins, minerals and even herbs and teas. This is because these types of products aren't subject to the FDA's regulation.

AS far as natural supplements go, it's sort of like the wild west of ingredient disclosure. Independent studies have recently shown that 13out of 21 popular brands of multivitamins contained significantly greater or fewer quantities of the nutrients listed on their labels. Like the old saying goes..."You Can't Always Believe What You Read."

Here are a few popular weight-loss supplements, their claims and the verifiable facts.

Chitosan...Claims to block the absorption of dietary fat. Fact...relatively safe but unlikely to aid in weight loss. Can case GI problems such as constipation.

Chromim...Claims to burn body fat and helps muscle. Facts...again relatively safe but unlikely to aid in weight loss or build any muscles.

Green Tea Extract...Claims to boost the metabolism and suppress the appetite. Facts...Very little evidence to support these claims. Can cause GI problems and may contain high amounts of caffeine.

Hoodia...Claims to decrease appetite. Facts...once again there are no facts to backup this claim.

In conclusion although most of the popular weight-loss supplements on the market are relatively safe they for the most part are also relatively ineffective as to their claims of weight loss.

Another point to keep in mind is just because something doesn't need a prescription to be purchased doesn't mean that it is safe for you. You should always run these products by your doctor before you begin taking them.
